The Network Architect serves as the strategic leader responsible for designing, planning, and guiding the evolution of Bernalillo County’s enterprise network infrastructure. This role focuses on long-term architecture, scalability, security, and alignment with organizational goals. The Network Architect provides technical vision, ensures compliance with industry standards, and acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on network strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define and maintain the county’s enterprise network architecture roadmap. • Lead the design of complex, multi-site, hybrid (cloud/on-premises) network solutions. • Ensure scalability, resilience, and security in all network designs. • Provide technical direction and mentorship to Network Engineers and IT staff. • Establish standards, policies, and best practices for network operations. • Serve as the escalation point for high-impact network issues. • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies. • Drive modernization initiatives such as cloud integration. • Align network architecture with county-wide digital transformation goals. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including cybersecurity mandates. • Partner with Information Security teams to embed security into network design. • Document architecture decisions and maintain enterprise-level diagrams and standards. *The above information is intended to outline the general nature and scope of the duties required for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related field. • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in network engineering, design, or architecture. *Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements. SCREENING AND COMPLIANCE

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following: • Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination. • Adherence to all County safety guidelines. • Complete all FEMA training(s) assigned to this position. • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license by the date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed in this position. • Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.

PREFERENCES

• Cisco Network Certification (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment but occasionally requires travel to other locations. • Work environments may include noise, dust and/or unpleasant odors, and may occasionally require work in confined spaces. • Occasional evenings, holidays, and/or weekend work may be required.

• Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties includes telephone, computer, printer, and copy machine. • Various types of paperwork and forms are handled in the performance of duties.
