The Tradesperson/Foreman (Assistant Park Area Foreman), under general supervision of Parks Area Foreman, maintains and develops land management property. Coordinates and inspects the work scheduled for land management jobs on a daily basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists Park Area Foreman with scheduling daily, weekly, and monthly routine Maintenance functions for all areas maintained and attends meetings when necessary.
  • Monitors parks and other areas maintained to ensure assigned duties are properly performed and to note and assign additional maintenance required.
  • Recommends major and minor repairs or development needs to supervisor.
  • Recommends and assists with ordering of materials needed at Land Management sites.
  • Monitors and inspects vehicles, tools, and equipment used by Land Management personnel.
  • Assists in coordinating the training of employees on operation of equipment such as, but not limited to power tools, trenchers, front-loader, dump truck, power rakes, sign machine, sod cutters, mower tractors.
  • Inspects and evaluates work performed by Land Management personnel daily, which includes concrete work, irrigation repair and installation, flood irrigation, trail maintenance, welding, and other grounds maintenance work as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of grounds-keeping and general facility maintenance experience, with two (2) of those years as a Park Maintenance Worker.
  • Employee must have a current New Mexico Department of Agriculture Pesticide License.
  • Employee must have a Journeyman Sprinkler License.
  • Employee must obtain a Backflow Technician certificate within one year of hire.

SCREENING AND COMPLIANCE


The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  • Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  • Adherence to all County safety guidelines.
  • Complete all FEMA training(s) assigned to this position.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license by the date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed in this position.
  • Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to natural weather conditions.
  • Worker is exposed to occasional noise and vibration factors in the operation of equipment.
  • Worker is exposed to dust, fumes, and mists.
  • Work is performed on even and uneven terrain. Surfaces may be wet, dry, natural ground or paved. Work may be performed on inclines and occasionally on ladders.
  • Work hazards include dust, chemicals such as herbicides, fertilizers, pesticides, and power equipment and ladders.
  • Work as part of a crew and under general direction.
  • Employee must be able to work other than normal hours and be on call.


EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS

  • Utilizes the following tools and equipment: sickle mower, push mower, sprayer, weed-eater, power blower, pruning shears, ladders and assorted hand tools utilized in grounds maintenance.
  • Gloves, goggles, boots, dust masks, earplugs and occasionally respirators are utilized in performance of essential duties.
  • Operates County vehicle as necessary on a daily basis.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to use reason and judgment in assignment of tasks.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of use of tools, equipment and materials in a safe manner in the performance of essential duties.


PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to four (4) hours at one time, and up to eight (8) hours total per day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally from ground to waist level. Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently from grounds to shoulder level.
  • Ability to bend at waist and twist/rotate waist if necessary for up to one-third of workday.
  • Ability to crouch and kneel frequently.
  • Ability to work with arms extended and bent for up to four (4) hours at one time, and seven and one-half (7.5) hours total per day.
  • Ability to push/pull with arms with a force of up to 50 plus pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from ladders while trimming trees or shrubs.
  • Ability to coordinate use of hands and eyes in performance of essential duties.
