DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Must be able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the positions below the rank of Lieutenant Fire based on the employees progression and EMS licensure level.
2. Direct, supervise, organize, and plan the activities of subordinates within a station, making work assignments in accordance with the recognized chain of command.
3. Must comply with and enforce all Bernalillo County Policies, Bernalillo County Fire Department Policies & Procedures, Standard Operating Guidelines, Directives, Memos, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
4. Responsible for communicating and clarifying management orders and decisions to subordinate personnel. Brief subordinates regularly on policy, procedures, bulletins, and other relevant information.
5. Guide, correct, and/or discipline subordinates as appropriate or as directed through the Chain of Command.
6. Assist upper management in the administration of personnel issues to include performance evaluations.
7. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all apparatus, buildings, equipment, and grounds, at assigned station to include the cleanliness of the station.
8. Responsible for maintaining proficiency in hydraulics/pump operation and aerial operations in order to assist the Apparatus Engineer with operations, trouble shooting, and training.
9. Responds to emergency calls as dispatched, assume command of fire fighting and rescue operation until relieved by a superior officer and will be responsible for the safety of assigned fire fighting personnel.
10. Plan, coordinate and supervise activities of fire suppression during emergency response to control and extinguish fires and protect life and property.
11. Respond to calls for medical services and administers emergency medical treatment at level of licensure according to approved standard of care, and assist in patient transport when needed.
12. Prepare, review and forward reports, records, statistics and other data gathered to the Captain or Battalion Commander as required.
13. Prepare and compile necessary documentation to support duties and responsibilities.
14. Instruct and train personnel in fire and EMS methods, techniques and related matters.
15. Participate in fire prevention activities, to include inspection of buildings and development of pre-fire plans.
16. Participate in public education and public relations activities, and participate in on duty training, both as student and instructor, as needed.
17. May be required to perform the activities of subordinates and/or act as Captain or Assigned Supervisor.
18. Perform other job related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet all of the minimum qualifications of the Apparatus Engineer (V702) or Paramedic/Firefighter (T700) job descriptions as applicable to their current position within Bernalillo County Fire Department.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of current continuous service in a Bernalillo County Fire Department. This is achieved by being a Paramedic/Firefighter for five (5) years or having two (2) years of continuous service in the job of Apparatus Engineer, or as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining agreement or Department policy.
Must have and maintain a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, or higher certification and be duly licensed by the State of New Mexico while employed in this position.
Employee must have and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license with a Class E endorsement for the duration of employment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
1. Employee must complete all prerequisites to participate in the Lieutenant promotion process as per department policies.
2. Employee must participate and successfully complete and pass the Lieutenant promotion process. Selection to fill vacant positions will be based on test scores from the Lieutenant promotion process and where personnel are placed on the promotional list. Only personnel on the promotional list will be promoted.
3. Employee must comply with, pass, and maintain the New Mexico OSHA physical screening requirements for firefighters.
4. Must comply with and enforce all Bernalillo County Policies, Bernalillo County Fire Department Policies & Procedures, Standard Operating Guidelines, Directives, Memos, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Employee is still subject to the working conditions as stipulated in the job descriptions for all previous positions held as a Paramedic/Firefighter (T700), or as an Apparatus Engineer (V702) and Firefighter (V702).
2. Employees are required to work shifts as stipulated within the Collective Bargaining agreement and determined based on the needs of the Department as set forth by the Fire Chief.
3. Employee performs work indoors and/or outdoors as the situation dictates. The employee performs maintenance, training, public education and public relations, and other duties as assigned while waiting to be called out on an emergency.
4. Employee may be exposed to temperature extremes depending on weather conditions and fire hazard conditions.
5. Employee is exposed to intermittent and/or sustained high noise levels such as sirens, engines and loud voices.
6. Employee may be exposed to vibration of the body on an intermittent basis from vehicle rides, off road travel.
7. Employee may be exposed to the following hazards: driving hazards, rescue attempts and difficult terrain, possibility of hazardous material spills and hazards inherent in firefighting.
8. Employee may be exposed to exhaust fumes, heat, smoke, water, dusts, fire retardant chemicals, and toxic fumes.
9. Employee works on uneven, natural ground surfaces, asphalt, cement, stairs, ladders, scaffolding.
10. Employee may be exposed to pathogenic bodily fluids and air during rescue attempts and emergency situations.
11. Employee may be exposed to high-pressure water, fire retardant, during firefighting efforts.
12. Employee generally works with a select team and may at times work without direct supervision,

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS
1. Utilizes all of the equipment, tools and materials listed within the job descriptions for all previous positions held as a Paramedic/Firefighter (T700), or as an Apparatus Engineer (V702) and Firefighter (V702).
2. Employee will be required to use any necessary equipment to perform fire fighting activities, emergency medical response, and other emergency responses based on their training and the tasks at hand.
3. Employee will be required to use materials, equipment and products to maintain stations, grounds, fire apparatus, and any other areas of non emergency responsibilities.
4. Employees will be required to learn and utilize various technology and business machinery and miscellaneous other equipment in order to support the function, duties, and responsibilities of their job.
5.
