POSITION SUMMARY

Under general direction, this position is the Lead position of the MDC Security Electronic Technicians, plus installs, tests, maintains and repairs electronic, computer, electrical, fire protection, CCTV and mechanical systems. Plans and implements preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: 1. Functions as the Lead position of the MDC Security Electronic Technicians. 2. Install, maintain, test, diagnose, repair, calibrate, or adjust electronic or mechanical equipment, and plans and implements preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment. To include software installation and programming. 3. Performs complex and technical duties in relation to high voltage equipment to include door controls, jail systems for doors, gate controls, electronic fences, intercoms, digital cameras, fire alarms, intercoms, duress systems and assists with programming with the vacuum controls for the master control vacuum waste. 4. Maintains the fire system, the lighting controls, PLC’s logic controller and the plumbing control controllers. 5. Maintains, repairs and upgrades card access system and card readers and control for the doors as well as maintenance of HML computers in Master Control which connect with logic controllers and the rest of the door controls. 6. Works with equipment and gear for high voltage to include12,470 voltages which are considered high voltage. 7. Perform diagnostic testing on equipment to be repaired using electronic equipment, troubleshoot problem, determine repairs to be performed, make recommendations to supervisor if repair is not cost effective or cost efficient. 8. Ensures smoke detectors are cleaned on a regular basis. 9. Remove, install, repair, clean and modify fire alarm systems including the inter-relationship of automatic door and HVAC return fans and smoke detectors, CCTV and mechanical systems to include inspection of assigned equipment. 10. Plan new or modified installations consistent with standard specifications and local electrical codes. 11. Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of all components. 12. Design, fabricate and weld special brackets and hangers for equipment as required. 13. Maintain a test bench and associated equipment; assume responsibility for maintaining appropriate supplies and supply resources for timely repair of equipment; order, receive, inspect, inventory and stock repair parts, diagnostic equipment and tools. 14. Reads plans and blueprints in order to identify location of issues and where the conduit run. 15. Repair and maintain telephone and other communications systems including those used for computerized central control devices. 16. Prepare service orders to document repair history of equipment; prepare and maintain records of work performed; submit reports as requested. 17. Read blueprints, sketches and diagrams and/or receive verbal instructions for the layout of electronic and mechanical systems; assist in preparation of specifications for electronic systems and equipment. **The above information on this job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
